Documentation
NIE (Número de Identidad de Extranjero): The immigration service issues this number to you once you obtain residency. This is your identification number in Spain. It is needed in order to file taxes, establish a business, open a bank account (not necessary for foreign accounts), and for almost all other forms you fill out. Both EU citizens and non-EU citizens get issued an NIE.
Residencia
All European citizens that are planning to live in Spain for more than 3 months of the year must obtain a residents certificate (Residencia). This is a green form issued by the National Police. You need a residents certificate if you are going to purchase a house, buy a car or work in ths country.
Padron
A Padron is need to register at health care centers, getting children into schools and also for other matters such as; a Padron enables the town hall to do a head count on the number of permanent residents in the area and the padron will give eligibility for certain goverment grants.
Culture
Spanish culture is a European culture based on a variety of influences. These include the pre-Roman cultures, mainly the Celtic and the Iberian cultures, but primarily in the period of Roman influences. In the areas of language and religion, the ancient Romans left a lasting legacy. The subsequent course of Spanish history also added elements to the country's cultural development.
